“GET READY FOR THE CHALLENGES AHEAD”
As part of the “10 × 6 Leading CIOs’ Challenges” organized by the Paperjam + Delano Business Club on Wednesday, January 25, Gérard Hoffmann, CEO of Proximus Luxembourg, shares what inspires him.

What do you see as the main IT challenges in 2023?

Gérard Hoffmann – “The main IT challenges in 2023 will focus on developing high-performance infrastructures, cybersecurity, the cloud, and talent attraction. Regarding infrastructure development, 5G deployment remains a priority. Creating an environment conducive to entrepreneurs and investors also helps attract new talent to the ICT sector.

As for regulatory pressure, although it is increasingly present, it nevertheless raises the maturity level of companies and helps meet the needs of clients, partners, and regulators. The last two IT challenges in 2023 will be data protection, directly linked to data sovereignty, and potential dependency on IT and certain component-producing countries, which could cause significant delays in delivering some services.”

What is the best IT advice you would like to share with the Paperjam + Delano Business Club members?

“The advice I would like to share with the members is: ‘Prepare for the challenges ahead.’ A cyberattack can occur at any time and have severe consequences for your business, sometimes even leading to a complete halt of operations. We cannot stress this enough, but anticipation is key! Your survival begins today, particularly through repeated drills with your teams and partners.”

Which technological innovations do you believe will have the greatest impact on businesses over the next five years?

“Over the next five years, the following technological innovations will have a significant impact on businesses:

  • AI, machine learning, and user interfaces, which will continue to rise (already evident since the arrival of ChatGPT)
  • 5G and IoT, which will continue to influence how businesses operate
  • The metaverse, which will provide new consumer experiences
  • Data sovereignty, which allows companies to manage data locally and securely
  • Quantum internet, a true upcoming innovation
  • Augmented and virtual reality, which will benefit both consumers and businesses.”
