Proximus NXT and Tango to merge on January 1st, 2019
More than two years after the organizational rapprochement between Tango and Proximus NXT, the wholly owned subsidiaries of the Belgian Proximus Group are taking a new strategic step and merging on January 1st, 2019 to form a single company: Proximus Luxembourg SA. The Tango and Proximus NXT brands will remain active in their respective markets.
Already strongly present in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg for several years through its subsidiaries Tango and Proximus NXT, as well as its investment in the Digital Tech Fund, the Proximus Group remains convinced of the country’s growth potential. Encouraged by the success of the rapprochement between the two companies — which enabled the launch of convergent and innovative offerings — the group has decided to go further by merging them into a new entity: Proximus Luxembourg SA, under the leadership of Gérard Hoffmann.
This new structure will accelerate the implementation of an ambitious global strategy, offering the best of its expertise in both B2B and B2C markets. It confirms its position as a strong player across all its business segments.
A legal structure change reinforcing strategic commitments
Present in the Luxembourg market for 20 years for Tango and 40 years for Proximus NXT, it is essential to preserve these two well-established brands, highly valued by their customers.
Tango will continue to serve the residential market and small businesses with fewer than 10 employees, offering mobile, fixed-line, internet, and TV services. Proximus NXT, meanwhile, will support medium and large enterprises in their digital transformation by providing converged ICT and telecom services across fixed and mobile networks.
Customers will benefit from the best services and solutions made possible by the synergy between ICT and telecom expertise, while maintaining their usual points of contact.
A new headquarters reflecting this merger
This fusion will also be materialized by bringing together the three current sites in Esch-sur-Alzette, Bertrange, and Strassen into a new building: the Proximus House. Located in the Bourmicht area in Bertrange, this building will welcome group employees starting April 2019 (excluding Tango retail points of sale across the country).
This consolidation will facilitate exchange and collaboration while respecting the legal and regulatory requirements specific to each activity.
Proximus Luxembourg SA, operating under PSF support status, will thus employ nearly 650 staff — all experts serving its clients.
“This merger is the result of a successful strategy, integrating the activities of Proximus NXT and Tango within Proximus Luxembourg, in order to better support our clients in implementing innovative technologies. This rapprochement is a natural evolution toward the convergence of integrator and fixed/mobile operator activities,” says Gérard Hoffmann.
“As key players in both ICT and telecom markets, we are committed to continuing our contribution to accelerating Luxembourg’s digital transformation through the development of connectivity, resilient infrastructures, and 5G, as well as innovative technologies such as blockchain, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and IoT,” he concludes.
