MGSI and Proximus NXT are collaborating on data protection and cybersecurity in service of businesses
MGSI and Proximus NXT collaborate on data protection and cybersecurity for businesses
The ambition of MGSI and Proximus NXT is to be able to respond with a single voice to organizations’ needs in data protection and cybersecurity. This is why the two entities are now working in collaboration. In doing so, they are addressing a clearly expressed market demand.
Founded in 1979, Proximus NXT is a historic ICT player in Luxembourg. MGSI, on the other hand, has a much more recent history. Nevertheless, the company has become a reference in the field of corporate compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). For some time, the two organizations had already been working alongside each other. This collaboration will now become closer.
“Instead of each working separately, we have decided to offer a convergence of services for GDPR compliance and cybersecurity,” explains Jean-Marie Paris, Channel Manager at Proximus NXT. “This is a real market demand, particularly from SMEs, which are looking for support in meeting the challenge of regulatory compliance.”
In practical terms, MGSI and Proximus NXT will support each other depending on the client’s needs.
“If we are working on making a website or a SaaS application compliant, for example, we can now also offer a vulnerability assessment carried out by Proximus NXT,” explains Mélanie Gagnon, CEO of MGSI. “Conversely, if Proximus NXT manages an IT incident at one of its clients involving personal data, we can step in to assess the level of risk for the individuals concerned and the obligation to notify the CNPD and communicate with the affected persons.”
Complementary services
For Cédric Mauny, Head of Cybersecurity at Proximus NXT, this collaboration is a natural fit. “We aim to combine what a DPO and a CISO do,” he explains. “After all, information security and data protection are closely related fields. By working with Proximus NXT or MGSI, companies can continue operating with peace of mind, while providing full guarantees to their customers, employees, and partners regarding the security and protection of their data. In today’s increasingly digital world, trust from customers and employees remains the most important asset of a company.”
By combining their efforts, MGSI and Proximus NXT also offer greater convenience to their respective clients. “It is always simpler for a company to have a single point of contact,” adds Jean-Marie Paris. “In the medium term, we do not exclude working even more closely together. For example, we are considering developing a joint product, initially aimed at Luxembourg SMEs and later expanded internationally.”
Targeting the international market
With this new collaboration, MGSI and Proximus NXT intend to strengthen their presence on the international market. “It is often wrongly assumed that GDPR only concerns companies in Europe. In reality, it has global implications. For instance, a US company providing software to European users must also comply. Many companies outside Europe are not yet aware of this. There is therefore a real market opportunity,” explains Mélanie Gagnon.
Proximus NXT already has offices abroad, and MGSI is also present in Canada, which facilitates expansion into non-European markets. “However, there is still a lot of work to do in Europe as well. Many organizations are aware that GDPR exists, but they do not know what they need to do to comply. It is also our responsibility to demystify GDPR in order to accelerate compliance and improve security for these companies,” concludes Cédric Mauny.
The Luxembourg Data Protection Days, co-organized by the Chamber of Commerce and MGSI, are a key event for identifying the measures needed to comply with GDPR. Proximus NXT will participate as Gold sponsor. The CNPD will also present its first findings one year after the GDPR came into force. This will help companies better understand and adapt to the risks and challenges associated with the regulation.
