Interview with Yvon Boutry, Security Infrastructure Department Manager at Proximus NXT Luxembourg

Cyberattacks are on the rise, data is becoming a prime target, and trust is being put to the test. In this context, we spoke with Yvon Boutry, Security Infrastructure Department Manager at Proximus NXT Luxembourg, to understand how organizations can protect their sensitive information and remain resilient against increasingly sophisticated threats.

Cyberattacks have never been so frequent. What is changing today in the threat landscape?
Yvon Boutry:

*"We are witnessing a remarkable professionalization of cybercrime. Ransomware remains widespread, but it has evolved. Attackers no longer just block access to data—they steal it and threaten to publish it. Even a company with backups is no longer fully protected.

At the same time, artificial intelligence has become a double-edged sword. It helps defense teams detect anomalies faster, but it is also used to create fake emails, profiles, or extremely convincing deepfakes. A cloned voice alone can deceive an employee. This clearly shows that the boundary between technical and human factors is more porous than ever."*

Data integrity is a central theme in this discussion. Why has it become a strategic issue for organizations?

Y. B.: *"Data integrity is not just about ensuring data is not altered—it’s about preserving its value and the trust it inspires. When you entrust your medical information to a hospital or your banking data to a financial institution, you expect it to be protected.

Today, regulations such as GDPR, NIS2, or DORA push companies to raise their standards, but beyond legal obligations, it’s a matter of reputation and client relationships. A data breach is not just a loss of files—it’s a loss of trust that can take years to rebuild."*

Concretely, how does Proximus NXT support companies in this challenge?

Y. B.: *"Our role is to build pragmatic cybersecurity tailored to each organization’s context. We focus on several areas:

  • Detection and response: With our SOC teams, reinforced by automation and AI, we help detect incidents in real time and limit their impact.
  • Zero Trust: Never assume a user or device is trustworthy, but continuously verify identities and access.
  • Encryption and sovereign cloud: Because our clients want to know where their data is stored and who can access it.
  • Employee awareness: Technology alone is not enough. In over 70% of cases, an attack exploits human error. Training, empowering, and instilling security habits remains essential."*

Finally, is cybersecurity still perceived as a constraint?

Y. B.: *"That was true a few years ago: cybersecurity was seen as a cost, a brake on innovation. Today, things are changing. Cybersecurity is becoming a trust asset and a competitive advantage.

A company that can demonstrate it protects its data attracts partners more easily, reassures clients, and can approach innovations—AI, cloud, IoT—with greater confidence.

Our mission at Proximus NXT is to help clients move from reaction to proactive resilience. In other words: not just putting out fires, but building an environment where data is protected and digital trust becomes a true asset."*
